"Wii will, Wii will, ROCK you!!" as MTV Games announces Rock Band set to make its debut on the Nintendo Wii on June 22nd, 2008.

Harmonix and MTV Games along with Electronic Arts, Inc. announced Monday that the award-winning music video game Rock Band is coming to the Nintendo Wii in the U.S. and Canada on June 22nd, 2008 at a suggested retail price of $169.99. Rock Band for the Wii will feature 63 songs and include five bonus songs.

The Wii edition of Rock Band will be a Special Edition bundle that will include the software, drums, Microphone, and a wireless guitar. The stand alone instruments will also be available on the same date, which is a big plus over the release of the original Xbox 360 and PlayStation bundles which offered no additional stand alone instruments available with the game release disappointing many fans. This will allow gamers to buy an extra guitar to add a bass to their band, or an extra drum set if they want to play in the drum versus drum mode.

The Wii version of Rock Band really fits that platform. According to Steve Singer, the licensing VP at Nintendo, “The social interaction and addictive nature of the Rock Band experience is a perfect fit for the Wii and will undoubtedly be fun for the entire family.”

Rock Band includes music tracks that span every genre of rock ranging from alternative and classic rock to heavy metal and punk rock. The game has earned over 40 awards this year including Game Critics Award: Best of Show E3 2007 and three awards at The 11th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards including Outstanding Innovation in Gaming, Family Game of the Year, and Outstanding Achievement in Soundtrack. Rock Band is rated "t" for Teen for lyrics and mild suggestive themes by the ESRB board.
