To what extent do we invent ourselves through the stories we tell? What happens to our identities when we lose control of our own stories? We might ask this of a woman named Frankie. Confined within the twelve-bar structure of one of the most frequently interpreted folk ballads in the American repertoire, we find her many personas: harlot, murderess, jilted lover, repentant sinner, vindicator of wronged women. But once there was a real woman who had her own story. Frankie Done it 291 Ways will open Monday, April 3rd, and run Mondays and Tuesdays until April 18th at the Ashby Stage.
