Microsoft has announced a price cut on the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on by $50.

In a move designed to bolster the HD DVD, Microsoft has announced a price cut off the $180 that it has been asking for the HD DVD add-on for the Xbox 360, bringing it down to $130. This may be in response to the successes seen for the side of Blu-ray in the HD DVD/Blu-ray wars.

Though this may not be the only reason as some inside sources are cited as saying that Microsoft is planing on bringing out an external Blu-ray add-on for the Xbox 360 in the coming year. Some see this as throwing in the towel but others see it as only taking advantage of market trends.

The price cut is effective immediately in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. No word yet if and when it will be effective in the UK and Europe.
