Sony announced that the PlayStation Portable (PSP) Slim and Lite systems have been selling extremely well in Japan, moving more than 580,000 units in less than a month.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced that since its launch on September 13th, about three weeks ago, the special edition Crisis Core PSP Slim and Lite editions, including the standalone unit, have sold more than 580,000 units.

Sony stated that the total PSP Slim and Lite sales have eclipsed the total sales achieved during the equivalent sales period following the launch of the original PSP in December of 2004.

For the last two weeks, Sony's PSP has held the top sales position of handheld game system in Japan taking the lead from the Nintendo DS. The PSP Slim and Lite is 19 percent slimmer and 33 percent lighter than the original PSP and comes in a variety of colors.
