GameSHOUT at Muskegon CC Halo 3 Event was a BLAST

Posted: Oct 18, 2007, 4:26 PM ET

Capt. Maverick & Ilander had a great time with all the Halo 3 fans at Muskegon Community College on Wednesday.

The Halo 3 fans turned out in force at Muskegon Community College in Muskegon Michigan on Wednesday October 17th for the Halo 3 Celebration. And Capt. Maverick was among the fans as he and Ilander were there to give out prizes and play games with the rest of the gamers.

Muskegon Community College is in the process of putting together a new program that will help students go from the classroom into the work force in game design along with all other aspects of video game creation. This program will be a huge benefit not only for the students as it will take them directly into the work force but will also be a great benefit for the college and for the game industry as a whole as more qualified people enter the work force.

GameSHOUT's Capt. Maverick was at the event to support the program and of course to have fun with the rest of the game fans. Microsoft was on hand awarding prizes but not wanting to be outdone, GameSHOUT also brought a big prize grab-bag and hosted a Halo 3 trivia contest and awarded games and GameSHOUT shirts and computer hardware to many students as well as younger fans that showed up to participate in the celebration.

While there, Capt. Maverick was forced onto the other side of the microphone as he was interviewed by the Muskegon Community College radio station, LakeFX and also by the local Muskegon television station. Not an easy transition for an interviewer but all seemed to go well. Mav also had an opportunity to interview MCC's professor Jeff Stipes who is in the process of putting together the video game design classes for the college. He hopes to have it all in place for the Fall 2008 semester.

The bottom line is that this was a great event and there will be more fun events to be had down the line as GameSHOUT continues to support the video game industry and especially the colleges that are bringing us such great talent to the industry. As a side note, Capt. Maverick has been invited to join a discussion panel at the Muskegon Community College of an austere group of members involving violence in video games and the effect of that violence on our youth. This should be a very spirited debate though I don't believe Jack Thompson has been invited to sit on the panel. We will keep you up to date on that as it develops.

Thanks again to Muskegon Community College for the invite to the Halo 3 Celebration and for your great hospitality!! MCC ROCKS!!
